Dr Atiya Bahmanyar

Meet The Doctor

Dr. Atiya Bahmanyar’s passion for art, health, and children has led her to a lifelong love of creating strong, beautiful, and healthy smiles.

Dr. Atiya attended dental school at the New York University School of Dentistry, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery, DDS, Degree. After graduating she completed her General Practice Residency at NYU Langone Hospital, Brooklyn.

After working for over three years as a dentist for kids, she wanted to become a practice-owner, so that she could give her patients and parents a different, more unique experience, when it came to dental care. Dentistry can be scary for folks of all ages, especially when you don’t know what to expect, so she wanted to help decrease anxiety and have an impact on her patients.

Good oral health starts at a young age. Through her outstanding patient care and attentiveness, Dr. Atiya is providing children of all ages and developmental stages with thriving oral health.

When she’s not in the office, Dr. Atiya fills her days staying active, reading, attempting new recipes in the kitchen, and spending time with her husband and family. If you’re looking for a compassionate dentist for your kids, she can’t wait to meet you and your family!

Tips for Maintaining Good Oral Hygiene in Children

Proper oral hygiene habits from an early age are crucial for your child's dental health. Here are some tips to help you:

    1. Start Early: Begin cleaning your baby's gums with a soft, damp cloth even before the first tooth erupts. Once teeth appear, use an age-appropriate toothbrush.

    2. Brush Twice a Day: Encourage your child to brush their teeth for two minutes twice a day, using fluoride toothpaste.

    3. Floss Regularly: As soon as your child's teeth start touching, introduce flossing into their oral hygiene routine.

    4. Encourage a Healthy Diet: Limit sugary snacks and drinks, and promote a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and dairy products.

    5. Regular Dental Visits: Schedule regular dental check-ups and cleanings every six months to monitor your child's oral health.

The Role of Preventive Dentistry for Kids

Preventive dentistry is a cornerstone of pediatric dental care. By focusing on early detection and intervention, we can help prevent dental issues and maintain optimal oral health for your child. Some key aspects of preventive dentistry include:

    ● Regular dental check-ups

    ● Dental cleanings and exams

    ● Fluoride treatments

    ● Dental sealants

    ● Oral hygiene education

Promoting Healthy Habits and Nutritional Tips for Children's Oral Health

Parenting isn’t easy, especially when it comes to kids' teeth! Little ones need extra protection and care to make sure they keep those pearly-whites shiny, healthy, and strong. Beyond regular checkups, there's a lot you can do as a parent to ensure your child keeps their mouth in great shape - like implementing good oral hygiene habits and making sure they get a nutritious diet. Doing this will drastically reduce the chance of cavities.

Kids Dental Spot, has some valuable tips for promoting healthy habits and providing proper nutrition to support your children's oral health.

    1. Encouraging Good Oral Hygiene Practices:

Teaching children proper oral hygiene practices from an early age is essential for their long-term dental health. Parents should emphasize the importance of brushing teeth at least twice a day using fluoride toothpaste, and you should help your children brush their teeth until they are capable of doing it independently. Additionally, flossing should be introduced as soon as their permanent teeth start to emerge, usually around the age of six.

    2. Promoting a Balanced and Nutritious Diet:

A balanced diet plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy teeth. Encourage your children to consume a variety of foods from different food groups, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and low-fat dairy products. Limit their consumption of sugary snacks and beverages, as excessive sugar can contribute to tooth decay. Encourage them to choose healthier alternatives like water, milk, or fresh fruit juices in moderation.

    3. Limiting Snacking and Promoting Mealtime:

Frequent snacking throughout the day exposes teeth to a prolonged acid attack, increasing the risk of tooth decay. Encourage regular mealtimes and limit between-meal snacks. If snacks are necessary, opt for tooth-friendly options such as fresh fruits, vegetables, or cheese.

    4. Water as the Preferred Beverage:

Water is the best drink for children's oral health. Encourage your children to drink water throughout the day, especially after meals and snacks. Drinking water helps wash away food particles and neutralize acids in the mouth, reducing the risk of cavities.

    5. Regular Dental Check-ups and Professional Cleanings:

Regular visits to Kids Dental Spot are crucial for monitoring your child's oral health. Our Dental professionals can identify and address any potential dental issues early on. We can also provide professional cleanings to remove plaque and tartar buildup, which cannot be fully removed through brushing and flossing alone.

Remember to lead by example, as children often emulate their parents' behavior. If you are looking for a reputable kids' dentist in the Anaheim, Orange County area, reach out to our friendly office staff. Our dental professionals are experienced in providing specialized care for children and can guide you in creating a solid foundation for your child's oral health. Together, we can ensure a lifetime of healthy smiles!

    Common Dental Issues in Children

Children may experience various dental issues that require professional attention. Here are some common problems and their solutions:

    1. Tooth Decay: Proper oral hygiene and routine dental visits help prevent tooth decay. If cavities occur, our dentists can provide restorative treatments like fillings.

    2. Gum Disease: Early signs of gum disease in children can be managed through professional cleanings and improved oral hygiene habits.

    3. Malocclusion: Orthodontic treatments, such as braces or aligners, help correct misaligned teeth and jaw growth issues.

    4. Dental Emergencies: In case of dental injuries or accidents, our dental office offers emergency services to provide immediate care.

    Managing Dental Anxiety in Kids

At Kids Dental Spot, we understand that visiting the dentist can be a daunting experience for children. Dental anxiety is a common issue that can make dental visits stressful for kids and their parents. However, we believe that with the right approach and a child-friendly environment, we can help alleviate dental anxiety in kids and make their visits to our dental care facility a positive and comfortable experience. Let's discuss some strategies and techniques we use to manage dental anxiety in kids.

    Creating a Welcoming Environment

    A Warm and Friendly Atmosphere:

We believe that creating a warm and friendly atmosphere is essential to reducing dental anxiety in children. Our waiting area is designed to be welcoming, with vibrant colors, comfortable seating, and a play area filled with toys and books. This environment helps kids feel at ease and distracts them from any worries they may have about their dental visit.

    Child-Centered Staff:

Our team at Kids Dental Spot is experienced in working with children and understands their unique needs. Our staff members are trained to be patient, compassionate, and gentle when interacting with kids. By establishing a positive and trusting relationship with our young patients, we help them feel more comfortable during their dental appointments.

    Effective Communication

    Clear and Age-Appropriate Explanations

We believe in the importance of clear and age-appropriate communication to reduce dental anxiety in children. Our dental team takes the time to explain each step of the dental procedure in a way that kids can understand. By using simple and non-threatening language, we ensure that children know what to expect and can ask questions if they have any concerns.

    Show and Tell

To further alleviate dental anxiety, we use a "show and tell" approach. This involves demonstrating dental tools and equipment to children before using them during the procedure. By familiarizing kids with the tools and showing them how they work, we help demystify the dental experience and make it less intimidating.

    Pain Management Techniques

    Topical Anesthesia

To minimize discomfort during dental procedures, we use topical anesthesia. This involves applying a numbing gel to the gums before administering injections. The gel numbs the area, reducing pain and making the process more comfortable for children.

    Nitrous Oxide

For kids with higher levels of dental anxiety, we offer nitrous oxide, also known as "laughing gas." Nitrous oxide is a safe and mild sedative that helps children relax during dental treatments. It is administered through a small mask worn over the nose and has a calming effect, making the dental experience more manageable for anxious kids.

    Distraction Techniques

    Entertainment Options:

We understand that distractions can be powerful tools for managing dental anxiety in kids. During dental procedures, we offer entertainment options such as watching cartoons or listening to music. These distractions help take children's minds off the treatment, reducing their anxiety and making the experience more enjoyable.

    Comforting Support:

Our dental team provides comforting support throughout the dental visit. We encourage parents to stay with their child during the procedure, offering reassurance and a sense of security. By being present, parents can help their child feel more relaxed and confident during their dental appointment.

At Kids Dental Spot, we prioritize creating a positive and comfortable environment for children to manage dental anxiety. By establishing a welcoming atmosphere, communicating effectively, utilizing pain management techniques, and employing distraction techniques, we strive to make dental visits stress-free and even enjoyable for kids. Our experienced staff is dedicated to providing the highest quality dental care while ensuring the well-being and happiness of our young patients.

When to Schedule Your Child's First Dental Visit

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends scheduling your child's first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months after their first tooth appears. Early dental visits help establish a foundation for good oral health habits and allow the dentist to monitor your child's dental development.

You can book an appointment with us from our website.

Your child's safety and comfort are our top priorities at Kids Dental Spot. We adhere to strict infection control protocols and use advanced dental technology to ensure a safe environment.
